Para Swimming in the Waikato

Inclusivity is one of Swimming Waikato’s big focuses and growing para swimming in the region is just one opportunity that has been identified to achieve this goal.

Our Hub head coach, Darren Ward, is teaming up with St Paul’s Swimming Club head coach Graham Smith and Bay of Plenty’s Henk Greupink to put on a free para-swimming camp in Cambridge next month.

The aim of the camp, which is targeted at primary and intermediate aged swimmers who are ready to leave their learn to swim programmes, is to identify a pathway for these swimmers, but also to educate coaches and officials.  The camp is taking place at St Peter’s School on the 10th of November and already, there has been a lot of interest.

Prior to this camp taking place, Darren is attending the Paralympics NZ Para Swimming National Development Camp in Auckland and is looking forward to bringing his learnings back to our November camp, and to future development opportunities that are delivered in the Waikato.
